An incident of alleged vandalism was reported at the Suruchi Sangha club in New Alipore on Friday afternoon, prompting the deployment of a large police force at the location. According to allegations, banners related to the club’s Durga Puja celebrations were torn down, while several individuals climbed onto bamboo structures and damaged parts of the framework.
The incident occurred on the same day that an Alipore court sent Swarup Biswas, the Durga Puja organizer of Suruchi Sangha and brother of former state minister Arup Biswas, to police custody. The alleged vandalism was reported shortly after the court’s decision.
According to reports, local residents entered the club premises and carried out acts of vandalism. Banners and flex boards were allegedly torn down, while slogans were raised against Swarup Biswas. Reports further stated that items including cots, air conditioners, government files and new sarees were found inside rooms within the club premises.
