Loud explosion in J&K's Kishtwar sparks plane crash rumours, IAF calls claims ‘false’

A loud explosion reported from the forested Paddar region of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday triggered widespread speculation, including claims of an aircraft crash. However, the Indian Air Force swiftly dismissed these reports, clarifying that no such incident involving its aircraft had occurred in the area.

According to initial accounts, residents in the remote forest belt reported hearing a powerful blast, followed by sightings of thick smoke rising from within the woods. The incident led to panic among locals, with unverified claims circulating rapidly that a plane had crashed at the site. These rumours gained traction on social media and some media platforms before any official confirmation.

Responding to the speculation, the Indian Air Force issued a statement categorically denying the claims. “There are certain media outlets and social media handles claiming an IAF aircraft has crashed near Kishtwar. This report is false,” a spokesperson said. The force also urged media organisations to verify information through official channels before publishing, as the situation highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread in the absence of confirmed details.
