A chilling revelation has emerged in the Baguiati trolley bag murder case that stunned Kolkata earlier this week. The deceased woman, whose body was found stuffed inside a trolley bag near a drain on a vacant plot in Baguiati, had reportedly left her husband and children to live with her lover in Barasat. However, their live-in relationship soon turned bitter, ending in her gruesome murder.
According to investigators, a domestic dispute between the woman and her lover escalated into physical violence. Following a heated argument, he allegedly beat her and subsequently murdered her—either by smothering or poisoning, as her body bore no visible injuries. To cover up the crime, he reportedly called an associate to help dispose of the body.
The duo then placed the woman’s body inside a large, black trolley bag and dumped it in a vacant area early Tuesday morning. At around 7:30 am, a newspaper vendor named Palash Mondal noticed the bag and grew suspicious after seeing hair strands protruding from it. He alerted locals and the Baguiati Police Station.
When police opened the bag, they found the woman’s body dressed in a yellow top and denim jeans, her mouth sealed with duct tape. She appeared to be in her early 30s and about 5 feet tall. Officers from the Bidhannagar City Police said the body had not decomposed significantly, suggesting a recent murder.
After coordinating with nearby police stations and reviewing missing persons’ reports, the woman’s identity was confirmed. Based on leads, the prime suspect—her live-in partner—was arrested. He is now in police custody and will be interrogated further.
