Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Heavy to very heavy rain lashed several districts of North Bengal over the past 24 hours, confirming earlier forecasts by the Meteorological Department. The situation in South Bengal remains concerning as a new weather system builds over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Met Office, a cyclone has formed in the central Bay, with a low-pressure area likely to develop over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. This system is expected to intensify further over the next 48 hours, bringing more widespread rainfall.
In South Bengal, coastal and western districts, including South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Jhargram, are forecast to receive rain and thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. North and South 24 Parganas are also on alert for stormy weather.
Officials warn that the combination of heavy rain and thunderstorms could impact daily life, particularly in vulnerable rural areas, while residents are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
