Maa flyover to remain shut from 11 pm to 6 am for a month

In an important announcement for the residents and commuters of Kolkata, the Maa Flyover will be temporarily closed at night for essential maintenance work. The closure is set to take place from 28th April to 27th May, with the flyover being shut down daily from 11 PM to 6 AM.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma confirmed the closure, noting that the westbound road towards Park Circus would not be accessible during these hours. This means that all vehicles traveling west from the EM Bypass towards the city will need to use alternative routes. Commuters will be redirected through Parama Island, the PC Connector, Bridge No. 4, New Park Street, and Syed Amir Ali Avenue, eventually merging onto AJC Bose Road.

The closure is a temporary but critical measure aimed at ensuring the long-term safety and durability of the flyover. One of Kolkata’s busiest traffic corridors, the Maa Flyover has seen frequent accidents, primarily caused by overspeeding bikers, highlighting the need for these safety upgrades. The temporary night shutdown is necessary to carry out maintenance work that will help in enhancing its structural integrity and safety features.

Over the past several months, Kolkata’s traffic department has introduced a series of measures to improve safety along the Maa Flyover, such as traffic regulation adjustments and speed limit enforcement. The latest measure underlines the city administration's commitment to ensuring better infrastructure and safer roads.

In addition to easing the flyover's load during the maintenance, this step will allow authorities to perform the required repairs and upgrades without disrupting daily traffic flow during peak hours. However, commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and take alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
