A Madhyamik examinee died by suicide in the Topsia area of Kolkata, with family members stating that she had been under stress over her mathematics examination. Police confirmed that the body was recovered from her residence on Thursday night and a case of unnatural death has been registered.
According to preliminary findings, the student allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room using a dupatta. Officers from Topsia Police Station reached the spot after being informed and sent the body for post-mortem examination. She was later taken to National Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Family members said that while her other examinations had gone well, she had been anxious and mentally distressed about the mathematics paper. The Madhyamik examinations concluded on February 12, and she had reportedly been worried since appearing for the subject.
Police said the student lived with her parents, sister and grandmother in a multi-storey building on Mahendra Roy Lane. At the time of the incident, her family members were at home. No suicide note was recovered, and officials stated that all aspects of the case are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
