A tragic incident occurred in Jalpaiguri when a young student, Arjun Kumar Das, was on his way to take his secondary examination. Arjun had been working hard to fulfill his dream of education, and his family had high hopes for him.
However, his journey was cut short when he and his father were attacked by a herd of elephants on their way to the examination center. Both Arjun and his father were seriously injured in the attack and rushed to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital. Sadly, Arjun passed away before reaching the hospital.
This is a heartbreaking incident, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, stating that Bengal and Jharkhand are among the areas most affected by elephant attacks. She said, "to prevent such incidents from happening in the future, the education office has been instructed to ensure that students living in forest areas are safely transported to their examination centers."
"It is important to find ways to control the increasing number of elephants in the area, but this has proven challenging due to regulations from the NGT. Nonetheless, efforts must be made to ensure the safety of students and other individuals living in these areas," the Bengal CM added.
