The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 has witnessed a record-breaking 57 crore pilgrims taking the holy dip at Triveni Sangam, with six days remaining until its conclusion on February 26.
Mahakumbh 2025 has also become the center of multiple Guinness World Record attempts, including the largest handprint painting event, the biggest e-rickshaw parade, and the most extensive river cleanup drive.
The event, which began on January 13, has drawn devotees from across India and abroad, with officials expecting the number to rise further in the final days. Key bathing dates, including Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchami, saw an overwhelming influx of pilgrims, with crowd management measures in full force. The upcoming Shahi Snan on February 26 is expected to attract one of the largest gatherings in the festival’s history.
Security and administrative measures have been intensified following a stampede on January 29 that resulted in 30 fatalities and over 60 injuries. Authorities have deployed AI-based crowd monitoring, drone surveillance, and additional personnel to manage the surge of visitors. Medical teams, makeshift hospitals, and emergency response units have been stationed across the venue to handle health and safety concerns. Large-scale cleanliness drives and environmental initiatives, including a major river cleanup campaign and waste management efforts, have been implemented to maintain hygiene at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.
The event has seen participation from national and international dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the King of Bhutan, who have all performed ritual bathing at the Sangam. As preparations continue for the final days of the festival, authorities remain focused on managing the expected surge in devotees and ensuring the smooth execution of religious and logistical operations.
