Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced that he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 18 to discuss the issues faced by farmers in the state.
Pawar, who recently took over the Finance and Planning portfolio, expressed satisfaction with the allocation of portfolios to NCP MLAs who joined the Eknath Shinde-led government.
During a media interaction in Nashik, where he attended the 'Shasan Aplya Dari' (government at your doorstep) program, Pawar confirmed his upcoming meeting with PM Modi. He stated his intention to raise various farmer-related concerns during the meeting and also mentioned his attendance at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting, along with NCP leader Praful Patel.
Responding to a question about reported claims regarding the allocation of portfolios and the Chief Minister's post, Pawar dismissed them as attempts to unnecessarily disturb the atmosphere, reiterating his satisfaction with the portfolio distribution. Pawar stated that it is the Chief Minister's prerogative, and he would not comment on the matter. The Shinde-led government currently has 28 cabinet ministers but no ministers of state, while a maximum of 43 members can be appointed.
Pawar also mentioned that civic elections in the state are pending due to four to five issues, including the reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC), which are awaiting a verdict from the Supreme Court. He added that the electoral rolls are being prepared, and elections will be held after the completion of the rolls and the Supreme Court's decision on the pending matters.
Addressing concerns about unity and development within the state, Pawar emphasized equitable progress, stating that efforts will be made to work in tandem with the "Mahayuti" (grand alliance) and ensure the development of all communities and castes. During his visit to Nashik, Pawar's supporters accorded him a warm welcome as he arrived by the Vande Bharat Express train. He visited NCP founder Sharad Pawar's residence to meet Pratibha Pawar, who underwent a hand-related surgery, emphasizing that the visit was separate from political matters and focused on family and traditions.
Pawar also highlighted the water scarcity issue in the state, mentioning the inadequate rainfall and the need to conserve water due to decreasing levels in dams.
