Kolkata Metro services experienced disruption on Sunday when a crack was discovered in the up line at Maidan station. Metro personnel promptly halted the movement on that line, averting a potential catastrophe.
Services between Tollygunge and Mahatma Gandhi Road were temporarily suspended for about two and a half hours before being restored.
Despite the disruption, Metro services continued to operate between Tollygunge and New Garia, as well as between Dakshineswar and Girish Park. The crack was detected after a subway driver heard unusual noises between Maidan and Park Street stations. Metro officials and engineers quickly responded, commencing repair work to rectify the issue. Full service on the Maidan up line resumed by 6:30 pm.
The incident highlighted the importance of ensuring passenger safety and maintaining the integrity of Kolkata Metro's infrastructure. Some commuters expressed frustration over the recent disruptions and delays in service. In previous days, services between Mahanayak Uttamkumar (Tollygunge) and Kavi Subhash stations had also been suspended temporarily.
It should be noted that a few weeks earlier, a tragic incident involving a suicide attempt had also caused disruptions on the Noapara down line. The metro service was temporarily affected following the incident.
