A tragic bus accident occurred on National Highway 7 in Kamarpukur, located in West Bengal's Hooghly district.
The incident took place when a bus and a dumper collided while attempting to avoid a biker, resulting in injuries to over 40 passengers. The Goghat police station was informed, and the injured were promptly taken to Kamarpukur hospital, with approximately 10 passengers reported to be in serious condition.
The collision between the passenger bus and the dumper occurred at around 7 o'clock on Friday morning. Additionally, two bikers were trapped in the wheels of the dumper. The accident happened on the Arambagh-Medinapur State Highway No. 7 in Kamarpukur.
According to local sources, the passenger bus was traveling from Burdwan to Mecheda station, while the dumper was heading from Kamarpukur towards Arambagh. Both vehicles were traveling at high speeds when a biker came under the dumper. In an attempt to avoid the biker, the dumper and the bus collided.
Eyewitnesses stated that the passenger bus was speeding near Kankali store in Kamarpukur. The collision occurred when the bus collided head-on with the dumper approaching from the opposite direction. The dumper lost control and hit a bike and an engine van on the side of the road.
Local residents pointed out that the state highway has become narrower due to parking on both sides, and speed limits were recently imposed on the road. They believe these factors contributed to the accident and called for stricter measures to control traffic on the national highway.
Efforts were made to swiftly rescue and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. Ten individuals in critical condition were transferred to Kamarpukur Medical College
