A major landslide hit near Ratta Chamb on Mughal road in Jammu and Kashmir. The videos are going viral on social media.
The administration has announced that the traffic movement will remain suspended on the route from either side. It will likely take 1.5 days to clear the whole road of the debris, said officials. Traffic movement is expected to resume on the route only on Thursday afternoon.
The government issued an advisory after the landslide and asked students going to Srinagar for the CUET entrance exam to immediately shift their travel route to Jammu-Srinagar national highway via Reasi or Jammu. The Deputy SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch, Nawaz Chohan was quoted by media outlets as saying, “Some vehicles are stranded on this side, traffic is as of now halted and will be allowed after road is cleared.”
The landslide hit the region at around 5 pm in the evening on Tuesday.
Landslides have become common in Jammu and Kashmir. Just last month the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed after a landslide in the Ramban area. It left 300 vehicles stranded. This landslide had hit the Shalgari area of the district.
Similarly 1 death was reported in March when a landslide occurred in Ramban. Many were also left injured.
