A professor from the Psychology Department of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), Haringhata, has resigned following a viral video of a sindoor application inside a classroom. The video, recorded on campus, shows the professor wearing a red Banarasi saree with a floral garland while a student applies sindoor to her maang. After the video surfaced on January 28, the university administration placed the professor on leave and formed a five-member inquiry committee to examine the incident.
On February 1, the professor submitted her resignation to MAKAUT Registrar Parthapratim Lahiri, stating that she was mentally disturbed and unable to continue working. Lahiri confirmed the resignation and said it would be sent to the Vice Chancellor for a final decision. The inquiry committee, which reviewed the matter, stated in its report that the act was not part of any academic curriculum or activity. No disciplinary action against the student involved has been announced by the university.
The university administration took immediate steps after the video gained attention, initiating an inquiry and relieving the professor from duty while the committee investigated. The final decision on the resignation now rests with the Vice Chancellor. No official statement has been issued regarding any policy changes or actions concerning similar incidents in the future.
