Malda BLA dies of heart attack after panic over father's name error on EC website

A tragic incident shook Kaliachak in Malda district as a Trinamool Congress BLA (booth level agent) Barkat Sheikh suddenly dies due to heart attack today. The worker from Chakseherdi village grew extremely worried after spotting an error on the Election Commission's website—his father's full name "Rasul Sheikh" appeared only as "Sheikh." Fearing this mistake might lead to his name being removed from the voter list amid ongoing SIR, Barkat rushed to the Kaliachak Block 3 BDO office seeking clarification and assurance, but left without getting proper help.

Soon after stepping out he suffers a massive heart attack and collapsed outside the BDO office. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. TMC leaders and Barkat's family have strongly blamed the Election Commission's carelessness for causing such intense panic and stress, calling the death unnatural and a direct result of the ongoing voter list revision process that has sparked widespread anxiety among people.

Tension spread from the BDO office to the hospital as a large crowd of TMC supporters gathered and protesting. Baishnabnagar police station arrived promptly to manage the situation and restore calm. This heartbreaking event highlights growing concerns over errors in official records and their emotional toll on ordinary citizens during election-related updates.
