A controversy has erupted in Malda after a Booth Level Officer (BLO) was found distributing SIR forms at grocery stores instead of visiting voters’ homes. The incident took place at booth number 36 in Pachala, under the Barui Gram Panchayat of Harishchandrapur-1 block. The accused BLO, identified as Mustad Hussain, allegedly handed out forms meant for voter verification at local shops, a move that violates the Election Commission’s prescribed procedures.
Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among local residents and political parties. According to reports, the forms — meant to be personally delivered to voters’ doorsteps — were casually distributed at stores, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the voter verification process.
The BJP has announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Election Commission, alleging bias and negligence in the handling of the process. Party representatives have questioned the impartiality of the Commission and demanded strict action against the officer involved.
This incident has once again put the spotlight on the conduct of election officials at the grassroots level and the need for stricter monitoring mechanisms to ensure fair and transparent electoral procedures.
