Mamata awards 50 lakhs to female footballers of East Bengal team
A man in Harishchandrapur, Malda, performed shraddh for his wife, who is still alive, after she left him for another man. Achinta Roy, a resident of Parshatla village, organized the ritual after his wife, Draupadi Roy, eloped on March 18, ending their 19-year marriage. Locals said Draupadi, who was childless, started a new life with her lover, leaving Achinta devastated.
According to sources, Draupadi has been making Facebook reels with her new partner and sending them to Achinta via WhatsApp. Villagers claim these actions publicly humiliated him and damaged his social reputation. In response, Achinta decided to sever all ties by performing shraddh, a ritual typically conducted for deceased relatives. The ceremony, attended by locals, symbolized his decision to consider her "dead" in his life.
The incident has drawn attention in the area, with locals discussing the emotional and social impact of the situation. Many attended the shraddh and confirmed that Achinta followed all traditional rituals. The event has sparked varied reactions, with some expressing sympathy for Achinta, while others questioned the extreme step. Draupadi has not made any public statement regarding the matter.
