In a significant development in Malda, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the Manikchak police station, Mohammad Shafiqul Sheikh, has been arrested for involvement in the trafficking of brown sugar. The arrest took place on the basis of a tip-off received by the Milki police outpost. Following the intelligence, the police raided the Hafez Tola village area in Englishbazar and apprehended four individuals, including Sheikh.
Along with Sheikh, Shafiqul Islam, a member of the West Bengal National Volunteer Force (NVF), was also arrested. The other two individuals are believed to be involved in the illegal drug trade, though their specific roles have not been disclosed. All four suspects were taken into custody and presented before the Malda District Court.
