In an attempt to repair strained relations, the Maldives has suggested a visit by President Mohamed Muizzu to India later this month, reports say. The proposal predates the current diplomatic discord arising from derogatory remarks made by Muizzu government ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The visit was proposed ahead of the currently erupted diplomatic row over derogatory remarks by the ministers of the Muizzu government against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India.
President Muizzu, who assumed office in November of last year, has so far visited Turkey and the UAE and is currently on visit to China, since coming to power, breaking the tradition of making India the first foreign destination for a newly-elected Maldivian president.
