Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are expected to travel to Delhi on June 8 to attend the next meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance. The visit will be the first by the party’s top leadership to the national capital since the party’s defeat in West Bengal.
The INDIA alliance meeting was initially scheduled to take place on June 2. However, after several opposition leaders informed Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge that they would be unable to attend on that date, the meeting was rescheduled for June 8. The gathering is expected to bring together leaders of opposition parties to discuss future political coordination.
Following the election results in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee repeatedly stated that opposition parties would regroup under the INDIA alliance banner and prepare for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata, with Abhishek Banerjee also present during the meeting.
After the alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur on May 30, several opposition leaders expressed support through social media. Among those who publicly reacted were Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren. Abhishek Banerjee later reposted those messages and thanked the leaders for their support.
The Delhi meeting comes amid continuing discussion over developments within the Trinamool Congress following the election outcome. Attention is expected to focus on the participation of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee in the INDIA alliance meeting and their engagement with opposition leaders at the national level.
