Mamata Banerjee on Thursday extended her greetings to people on the occasion of Ram Navami and Annapurna Puja, while making a strong appeal to maintain peace and harmony across the state amid large-scale celebrations. In a message shared on social media, she conveyed her heartfelt wishes and expressed hope that all festivities would be conducted smoothly and without disruption.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the Chief Minister said she wished for the successful and peaceful completion of all Ram Navami programmes. She urged citizens to uphold values of unity, prosperity, and holistic development, stressing the importance of maintaining communal harmony during the celebrations. Alongside Ram Navami, she also extended greetings for Annapurna Puja, invoking blessings for well-being and abundance.
Across West Bengal, Ram Navami was marked by processions, Kalash Yatras, and religious gatherings in multiple districts. The day witnessed widespread participation, with various organisations holding events and rallies. Authorities remained alert to ensure law and order, given the scale of public gatherings and the charged political atmosphere ahead of elections.
The appeal for peace comes in the backdrop of minor tensions reported earlier in the day, including a dispute in New Town where a procession was temporarily halted over allegations of carrying weapons. Although the situation was later brought under control, the incident underscored the need for caution. In this context, the Chief Minister reiterated her call for restraint and cooperation to prevent any untoward incidents during the festivities.
