Mamata Banerjee blames Amit Shah, Congress, and AIMIM over Kaliachak violence

Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Congress, AIMIM and the BJP on Thursday, blaming them for the recent unrest in Malda. Speaking at public rallies in Vaishnavnagar and Suti, she alleged that the riots were caused by "atrocities of Congressmen" who only became active just before the elections. Banerjee claimed that during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, her party workers were the only ones supporting the common people while other parties remained indifferent. She further intensified her political offensive by accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating a "conspiracy" to influence the upcoming Assembly elections through this unrest.

The TMC supremo’s remarks come in the wake of a high-tension incident where seven judicial officers were held hostage for over nine hours in Malda by protesters upset over voter list deletions. Banerjee expressed her own anger over the situation, noting that she had fought in the Supreme Court to protect people's rights against the Election Commission’s deletion of 1.20 crore names. However, she strictly warned citizens against falling for provocations, fearing that violent protests or gheraoing judges would provide a pretext for central agencies like the CBI or NIA to intervene and complicate the state's legal autonomy.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that the broader "game plan" of the BJP is to create a law-and-order crisis to justify the imposition of President's rule in West Bengal. She criticized the state administration’s lack of communication, stating she was not informed of the hostage crisis by the Chief Secretary and only learned of it through journalists. Dismissing the Congress as a party that only emerges when "votes are empty," she argued that their historical inaction allowed the BJP to gain a foothold in the region.
