Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called for the formation of a united platform against the Bharatiya Janata Party while addressing an event held to commemorate Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary. She said there was a need to bring together parties including the Left and Ultra-Left to collectively oppose the BJP and stated that she remained open to discussions on the matter between 4 pm and 6 pm at her office.
Speaking at the event, Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP workers were attacking Trinamool Congress supporters after the Assembly election results. She claimed that party workers were living in fear and also alleged that TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and his family were being harassed. Referring to political alliances, she stated that “BJP is everyone’s enemy now.”
Mamata Banerjee also claimed that several national opposition leaders had spoken to her after the election results. According to her, leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal described the defeat of the Trinamool Congress as “pre-meditated.” She further stated that when the TMC came to power in 2011, no incidents of post-poll violence were reported in the state.
