Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the recent raids and arrests conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the residence and offices of Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji. Mamata has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing central agencies to target opposition parties.
In a tweet, Mamata condemned the actions of the BJP, referring to them as "political vendetta." She expressed her disapproval of the raids carried out by the ED on the secretariat, office, and residence of Minister Senthil Balaji, describing them as unacceptable and heinous acts by the BJP.
On June 13, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the house and offices of Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister and DMK leader Senthil Balaji. The raids were conducted as part of a money laundering investigation. The ED officials searched Senthil Balaji's house in Chennai as well as his ancestral residence in Karur.
Following the raids, Senthil Balaji was arrested late at night. Reports indicate that he complained about his health and was seen crying while being taken to the hospital. Supporters of Senthil Balaji gathered outside the hospital and began protesting against his arrest.
Other political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, have also criticized the central government for its actions against Minister Senthil Balaji. They have accused the BJP of engaging in vindictive politics and using central agencies to harass and intimidate the opposition.
