Mamata awards 50 lakhs to female footballers of East Bengal team
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the Dawat-e-Iftar at Nawab Ali Park in Kolkata, where she was presented with a jersey signed by Argentine footballer Lionel Messi. Mayor Firhad Hakim was also present. Banerjee acknowledged the gift, saying, "Thank you." The jersey was handed over as a mark of recognition. A few days earlier, Banerjee visited Furfura Sharif in Jangipara, Hooghly, after nine years. She met Pirzada Toha Siddiqui and discussed infrastructure improvements, development projects, and welfare initiatives for the shrine and surrounding areas. She assured government support for upgrading facilities at the religious site. Banerjee also participated in an Iftar gathering, interacting with community members. The shrine, considered significant by Bengali Muslims, has been a focus of various state development programs in the past.
Her recent public engagements come ahead of the elections. The Kolkata Iftar event and Furfura Sharif visit were attended by key political figures and community representatives. Banerjee's participation in Iftar gatherings and discussions on infrastructure improvements have drawn attention amid preparations for the upcoming polls.
