All India Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday evening with mayors, councillors and chairpersons from several suburban municipalities as the party intensifies preparations for the upcoming municipal elections following its defeat in the 2026 Assembly polls. The meeting will take place at her Kalighat residence and will include representatives from Dum Dum, North Dum Dum, South Dum Dum, Baranagar municipalities and the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
The meeting comes days after Mamata Banerjee held discussions with representatives of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and urged party workers to remain connected with the public. According to party sources, concerns have emerged within the organisation after recent political developments, including resignations by some municipal representatives and uncertainty surrounding the stability of several civic boards despite most municipalities remaining under Trinamool control.
On Sunday, newly appointed Dum Dum organisational district president and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra reportedly contacted party office-bearers from the concerned municipalities and informed them about the meeting. The Trinamool leadership had earlier conducted separate meetings with MLAs, MPs, district council members and representatives of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation as part of its organisational review process.
During earlier meetings, Mamata Banerjee reportedly instructed party representatives to continue civic and public service activities without disruption and maintain regular contact with local residents. She also reminded municipal representatives about legal provisions governing civic boards and stated that elected municipal boards could only be removed through democratic procedures.
Alongside the municipal outreach, organisational restructuring within the party is also continuing. On Sunday, Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad appointed Srideep Das as the new president of its South Kolkata youth wing, replacing Sarthak Banerjee. Srideep Das had previously served as the organisation’s general secretary.
