Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has returned to Kolkata after inspecting the Gangasagar Mela and convened an urgent meeting at Nabanna on Wednesday. The meeting will focus on finalizing the plans for the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit, scheduled for February 5-6, 2025. The summit will be a major event aimed at attracting global investments and showcasing West Bengal’s industrial potential. The government has been emphasizing the importance of this summit, particularly as the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections approach, to highlight the state as a hub for business and economic growth.
The Bengal Global Business Summit will bring together prominent industrialists, business leaders, and investors from around the world to explore investment opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure. The event is expected to generate discussions around economic growth, industrial collaboration, and job creation, especially for the state’s educated youth. The summit will also address issues related to the state’s industrial policy and the facilitation of business operations in West Bengal.
The Wednesday meeting at Nabanna will be attended by senior administrative officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, who will provide an updated report on the summit’s preparation. This includes progress on venue arrangements, security measures, and the coordination of logistics across various departments. Last week, a high-level review meeting was held with top officials to discuss preliminary arrangements, and the Wednesday meeting will be a follow-up to ensure all aspects of the summit are in place for successful execution.
In addition to preparations for the summit, the meeting will review the state’s plans for infrastructure development, including transportation improvements. Key areas of focus will be the enhancement of roads, railways, and air connectivity to ensure smooth operations for incoming investors and delegates. Discussions will also cover the hospitality arrangements for foreign representatives, with designated facilities and services to support international participation.
After the meeting, Mamata Banerjee will visit the Babughat temporary camp to engage with pilgrims. She is also scheduled to inaugurate a jetty at Outram Ghat. These activities form part of the government's ongoing initiatives to improve infrastructure, particularly in the transportation and tourism sectors, which complement the broader focus on industrial development and employment generation. The Chief Minister’s government has been pushing for significant investments to drive economic growth in the state, with a particular focus on infrastructure and job creation in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.
