Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a stern response to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), accusing her of misunderstanding key aspects and politicizing the matter. Amit Shah said - "Mamata Banerjee does not know the difference between refugee and infiltrator. I request her not to do politics in CAA matter. There are thousands of platforms for doing politics, but do not harm the Bengali Hindus who came from Bangladesh because you are also a Bengali."

He further added "I openly challenge Mamata ji to mention one of the sections of this law that takes away citizenship, she is creating fear and wants to create conflict between Hindus and Muslims. After the BJP government came to power in Assam, infiltration has completely stopped. I believe that if you (Mamata Banerjee) allow such an important national security issue to be intruded upon by doing appeasement politics, and oppose giving citizenship to the refugees who have come, then the public will not be with you. Mamta ji, don't stop this(CAA), you should stop the infiltration".

Shah's remarks come amidst escalating tensions between political factions, with Banerjee questioning the timing and intent behind the implementation of CAA.
