Man stabs girlfriend to death in broad daylight, jabs himself in Panihati
An incident of physical altercation occurred outside the Kalighat residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday afternoon following widespread political chaos in Hazra. The turmoil began during a conditional, High Court-permitted protest rally organized by the Kalighat faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the Baruipur minor rape and murder case. As tension and clashes between BJP and TMC workers escalated outside her house, the Trinamool leader stepped onto the street to personally handle the situation, ultimately losing her temper and slapping a person identified as a TMC worker.
The protest march, which commenced from the Ballygunge outpost, faced intense resistance as opposition workers raised provocative slogans and played derogatory tracks along the route. TMC leadership alleged that their party members were severely assaulted during these street confrontations. Upon witnessing the peak of the disorder right outside her residence, Mamata Banerjee attempted to manage the gathered crowd before physically striking her own party supporter. Following the confrontation, she strongly condemned the local law enforcement's handling of the situation, demanding that the current administration run the government properly and stop BJP workers from gathering near her home.
The incident triggered sharp political reactions from the opposition, with Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar heavily criticizing the former Chief Minister's behavior. Majumdar claimed that Banerjee has lost her mental balance following her exit from power and remains unable to accept that the electorate of West Bengal removed her administration. Meanwhile, Banerjee defended the actions of the marching youth, characterizing the controversial Baruipur agitators as peaceful democratic protesters who were being unfairly targeted and intimidated by opposition forces.
