Mamata opts out of 'One Nation, One Election' meet

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to skip the meeting on 'One Nation, One Election' in Delhi and will instead send two of her MPs, Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Kalyan Banerjee, to represent her at the gathering.

The meeting, headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind, was initially on Banerjee's schedule for Tuesday, but her last-minute cancellation is attributed to the ongoing state budget session.

Banerjee clarified her decision, stating, "I have canceled my Delhi trip because the state budget is scheduled on February 8. As I have just two days in hand and it is an emergency situation, I have canceled the trip."

Meanwhile, BJP legislator Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly, hinted at the possibility of the central government sending a team to West Bengal to investigate allegations regarding the misuse of funds under the 15th finance commission for paying electricity bills of state government buildings.
