Man arrested for posing as IAS officer for 7 years after failing UPSC 4 times

A 35-year-old man from Jharkhand has been arrested for allegedly impersonating an Indian Administrative Service officer for nearly seven years. The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was taken into custody after his claims raised suspicion during a visit to a police station in connection with a land dispute.

The incident came to light on January 2 when Kumar visited the Hussainabad police station and introduced himself as a 2014-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre. He claimed to be currently posted as a chief accounts officer in Bhubaneswar and said he had previously served in Dehradun and Hyderabad.

Police officials grew suspicious of his statements and conducted a preliminary verification, which revealed that Kumar was not employed in any government service. He was subsequently detained for questioning.

During interrogation, Kumar admitted that he had appeared for the UPSC examination four times but failed on each attempt. He reportedly told the police that he posed as a senior officer to project success and meet his father’s expectations. He has been booked under relevant sections of law and remanded to judicial custody, with further investigation underway.
