A man has been arrested for allegedly cheating a complainant of more than Rs 11 lakh by promising admission for his daughter in an MBBS course at Guangzhou Medical University in China.
The accused, who operated from an office in Hare Street PS area, convinced the complainant to make the payment. However, after receiving the money, the accused failed to secure the promised admission or refund the amount.
Following an investigation, the accused was apprehended on July 15, 2023, under a Production Warrant issued by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Kolkata. He is currently in police custody until July 20, 2023, as per the court's order.
The accused, identified as Akash Chatterjee, resides at 88/5/1, Swami Vivekananda Road, P.S. Chatterjeehat, Pin-711101. It is worth noting that he had previously faced arrest for similar offenses by Bhowanipur PS and Shibpur PS in Howrah.
The authorities are working to gather more information about the case, including any other potential victims who may have been deceived by the accused.
