A disturbing incident unfolded on a Kolkata Metro train on Monday night when a male passenger was accused of inappropriately touching women in a crowded coach. The train was traveling from Dakshineswar to Kabi Subhash when the chaos erupted. Several female passengers, supported by others on board, caught the man red-handed and confronted him mid-journey.
Tensions escalated rapidly after the train crossed Rabindra Sarovar station. By the time it reached Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge), the atmosphere in the coach had turned volatile. When the train stopped at Netaji (Kundghat) station, the accused tried to get off but was quickly surrounded by angry passengers. He was physically assaulted—beaten with shoes by several women—and subsequently handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
According to eyewitnesses, the man had been misbehaving with multiple women during the ride. When a fellow passenger raised his voice in protest, the accused reportedly reacted violently and even attempted to hit him. This triggered further outrage, prompting others on board to intervene and confront the accused directly. Many claimed that this was not the first time the man had been involved in such behavior.
Once the RPF took custody of the accused, the women involved lodged a formal written complaint. The RPF immediately contacted Regent Park Police Station, and the local police arrived promptly to take over the investigation. The accused, however, denied all allegations and claimed he was being falsely implicated.
Metro authorities confirmed receiving a complaint regarding the incident and stated that they are cooperating fully with the law enforcement agencies. “We have informed the local police station. Proper legal action will follow,” said an official from Metro Railways.
