A man in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, believed to be dead and whose body was cremated a few days ago, has returned home alive, police said on Monday (12 June). The incident, which has raised serious question marks over the police investigation, took place at Babhangama village under Aurai police station in the district.
Teju Sahani had gone to Muzaffarpur for court a week ago. Subsequently, a dead body was found near the village and his son Pramod Sahani identified the body as his father's. After identification, the local police performed an autopsy and sent the dead body for cremation.
"We found the dead body. It looked like my father. The villagers also said it was my father Teju Sahani. That's why we cremated him after the post-mortem," said Pramod Sahani. After my father went missing a few days ago, my mother also died and we performed her last rites," he added. However, he revealed that on Sunday, they came to know that his father had been seen at Muzaffarpur railway station.
"We immediately went there and brought him home. We also informed the local police about the development," said Pramod Sahani.
"The dead body was identified by Pramod Sahani. However, his father is alive and returned home on Sunday. We are now investigating the identification of the dead body, which was cremated a few days ago," DSP, Muzaffarpur East, Manoj Pandey, said.
