A fatal accident took place on Monday morning on the Budge Budge Trunk Road near Maheshtala Pada Bangla, when a speeding truck hit a man crossing the road and fled the scene. The victim, identified as Jhantu Naskar, a resident of the Old Post Office area of Maheshtala, was left bleeding on the road after the collision.
Locals immediately informed Maheshtala police, who rushed to the spot and took the injured man to Budge Budge ESI Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The tragic incident created panic among bystanders, who condemned the reckless driving often witnessed on the busy road.
Police have registered a case and begun investigating the matter. CCTV footage from the nearby areas is being examined to identify the truck and trace the absconding driver. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused once identified.
The accident has reignited concerns over road safety in Maheshtala, with residents urging the authorities to install more speed checks and increase patrolling to prevent such mishaps.
