A horrifying incident has shaken the town of Bishnupur in Bankura district, where a man was allegedly murdered for protesting against cruelty towards stray dogs. The incident took place in Krishnaganj Gargaran area of Ward 12, late Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Sudin Pal, a local sandblower, while his brother Amitabh Pal sustained serious injuries in the attack.
According to police sources, Sudin and Amitabh Pal were known in their locality for their deep compassion for animals. Every night, the two brothers would feed stray dogs and even take care of their medical needs. However, their kindness seemingly triggered hostility from two local youths, who are said to have regularly harassed and beaten the dogs.
On Tuesday night, after returning from a local Gajan festival, Amitabh Pal saw the two youths viciously beating dogs outside their home. When he tried to stop them, the situation quickly escalated. The youths allegedly attacked Amitabh with sticks, leaving him injured. On hearing the commotion, Sudin Pal rushed out to protect his brother.
While Amitabh somehow escaped and reached Bishnupur Police Station to lodge a complaint, his return home was met with horror. His elder brother Sudin was found unconscious and severely injured, lying in front of their house. He had been reportedly attacked with bricks. Neighbours helped rush Sudin to the Bishnupur Super Specialty Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Amitabh has directly accused the two local youths of killing his brother in retaliation for confronting them over animal cruelty. Acting swiftly, Bishnupur Police arrested the two accused, and they are currently being interrogated.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals and animal welfare groups, with many demanding strict punishment for the accused. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to strengthen the investigation.
