Man hacks wife to death, holds children hostage to avoid arrest

A horrifying incident unfolded early Wednesday morning in Jalpaiguri's Raipur Tea Garden when a man allegedly murdered his wife with a sharp weapon and then held his two children hostage to avoid arrest. The shocking crime created panic in the neighbourhood and triggered a tense standoff with the police that lasted for hours.

The accused has been identified as Ajay Munda, a resident of the Raipur Tea Garden area. He lived with his wife Kusum Munda and their two young children. According to local sources, around 7 am, Ajay brutally attacked Kusum with a sharp weapon, inflicting multiple injuries. She collapsed in a pool of blood as their terrified children looked on.

Alerted by neighbours who heard screams from the house, police soon arrived at the scene. However, upon seeing them, Ajay panicked. In a desperate attempt to escape arrest, he locked himself inside the house, holding the weapon to his children’s throats. His threatening behavior sparked widespread fear in the locality.

The police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a strategic operation to rescue the children and arrest the accused. Despite Ajay’s resistance and aggressive stance, officers managed to neutralize the situation after several hours. The children were rescued unharmed, and Ajay was arrested.

Local residents expressed both shock and relief following the rescue. Many questioned what could have triggered such extreme violence. The police have confirmed that Ajay will be interrogated thoroughly to determine the motive behind the brutal murder.

Kusum Munda’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. A murder case has been filed against Ajay Munda, and legal proceedings are underway.
