Man held with 7 kg cannabis on moving train in Bardhaman

A man was arrested with around 7 kilograms of cannabis during a police operation on a moving train in Purba Bardhaman on Tuesday. The operation was carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Kalna based on specific intelligence inputs regarding drug trafficking.

The accused, identified as Gobinda Roy (38), a resident of Dinhata in Cooch Behar, was intercepted during the search conducted around 12:45 PM. Officials recovered the contraband substance from his bag after he was found behaving suspiciously during the operation.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that he was transporting the cannabis from New Cooch Behar Junction to Ambika Kalna Railway Station. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he is set to be produced before a court in Purba Bardhaman. Police said the action is part of an intensified drive against drug trafficking in the region.
