A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his five-year-old daughter and dismembering her body into four pieces after she visited a neighbor’s house despite his objections. The accused, identified as Mohit Mishra (40), reportedly strangled his daughter, Tani, in a fit of rage and disposed of her remains in a mustard field.
According to police, the incident came to light on February 25 when Tani was reported missing. A search operation was launched, during which a body part was discovered. Further searches led to the recovery of additional remains the next day, confirming that the child had been killed. Investigators then questioned locals and family members, but Mohit was initially untraceable as he had handed his phone to his wife and disappeared.
“When the child went missing, we questioned the family members about the events leading up to her disappearance. When the father resurfaced, he was interrogated and ultimately confessed to murdering the girl and disposing of her body,” the police stated. During questioning, Mohit told police that his family and the neighbor, Ramu’s family, were once close but had a falling out following a dispute.
Despite repeated warnings, Tani continued visiting Ramu’s house. On the day of the incident, Mohit saw her returning from there, took her on his bike to a secluded area, and strangled her with her own clothes before dumping her dismembered body in a mustard field. Authorities questioned over 100 people as part of the investigation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Pravin Ranjan Singh confirmed the details of the case and praised the swift efforts of the police teams in solving the crime. Forensic teams also played a crucial role in gathering evidence that led to the arrest. Mohit Mishra has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder and destruction of evidence.
