A vegetable vendor was brutally murdered near railway tracks in North 24 Parganas’ Kodrapara area on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as 55-year-old Jabar Mollah, was returning home from Malatipur station when he was attacked by a local youth, Nazimuddin Mollah. According to police, the accused used a sharp weapon to fatally injure the victim before fleeing with cash from his possession. Locals rushed the critically injured man to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused had proposed marriage to Jabar Mollah’s daughter but was repeatedly rejected by the family. Allegedly fueled by anger over the rejection, Nazimuddin ambushed the victim while he was alone. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams from the railway tracks and found Jabar lying in a pool of blood. A large crowd gathered after the incident, with tensions escalating in the area.
Following the murder, agitated locals vandalized the accused’s house, demanding swift police action. The victim's wife, Masuda Bibi, claimed, “He wanted to marry my daughter, but we refused. Now, he has killed my husband.” Police have deployed additional forces in Kodrapara to maintain law and order as they search for the absconding accused. An investigation is underway, with the authorities probing all angles related to the crime.
