Police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife in Aliganj area of Bareilly on February 14 to marry his sister-in-law and then filing a robbery complaint to mislead the police.
Accused Farukh Alam claimed that several robbers barged into the house and attacked him and his wife with sharp weapons and looted all the jewellery and cash. The accused watched movies to find a way to kill his wife Nasreen Begum, 28, police said.
However, during the investigation, the role of the husband was investigated based on the evidence.
SSP Akhilesh Chaurasia said, "Alam blamed the incident on a robber, but we found that no such theft took place. He killed his wife and hid the jewellery. He was charged with murder and causing evidence to disappear, and after being sent to jail, he confessed to the crime. A medical and legal examination of Alamo indicates that his injury was caused by a surgical blade."
