Man meets woman in club, rapes and beats her in Kolkata; arrested

A man, identified as Deepak Mukherjee alias Dip, was arrested by authorities on charges of rape and assault against a young woman. According to the FIR filed at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, the accused allegedly befriended the woman at Jannat Club, gaining her trust before committing the heinous acts.

The incident, which took place between 7 AM to 8 AM on July 15, allegedly involved Mukherjee raping the woman at his residence and even physically assaulting her. The victim was subsequently examined by medical professionals at R.G. M.C.H., Kolkata, and forensic materials were secured for investigation purposes.

Following diligent investigation and based on credible information, authorities apprehended Mukherjee on July 16, at the intersection of Raja Naba Krishna Street & Jatindra Mohan Avenue. Post-arrest interrogation reportedly led to Mukherjee confessing to his involvement in the crime.

During a search of Mukherjee's residence, investigators recovered potential evidence, including clothing, bed sheets, and pillows, all crucial to the ongoing case. Mukherjee has since been presented before the Ld. A.C.J.M. Court, Calcutta, where he has been remanded to police custody until July 24.
