Kasba Gangrape: Court sends all 3 accused to 7-day police custody
A 19-year-old girl, Sandhya Chaudhary, was brutally murdered inside the emergency wing of the Narsinghpur district hospital in Madhya Pradesh on June 27. The attack took place in broad daylight and was captured on mobile footage that surfaced later. The accused, Abhishek Koshti, allegedly slit her throat with a knife while bystanders, including hospital staff, remained passive during the 10-minute assault.
According to officials, Abhishek was seen loitering in the hospital premises since around noon. Sandhya, a Class 12 student, had informed her family she was visiting a friend’s sister-in-law in the maternity ward. She was attacked near room number 22, shortly after a brief conversation with the accused. In the video, Abhishek is seen slapping her, throwing her to the ground, sitting on her chest, and then stabbing her.
At the time of the incident, two security guards were posted outside the trauma centre. Inside, hospital staff including a doctor, nurses, and ward boys were present. No one intervened to stop the attack. After the murder, Abhishek reportedly attempted to kill himself but failed. He then fled the hospital on a parked bike and has not been located so far.
The incident caused panic among patients and attendants. Of the 11 patients admitted in the trauma ward, eight were discharged the same day, and the remaining three left by the next morning. Sandhya’s family was informed around 3:30 pm and found her body still lying on the floor of the emergency wing upon arrival.
Following the murder, Sandhya’s family and local residents staged a protest outside the hospital by blocking the road. The demonstration lasted until 2 am and was brought under control only after officials assured the crowd that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the security lapse.
