A man identified as Prashanta Singh Rana, a factory worker from Jharkhand residing in Domjur’s Jangalpara, attempted suicide by slitting his throat on a public road in Howrah’s Domjur on Thursday night. According to police sources, the incident occurred around 9:30 PM when he suddenly took out a knife and inflicted the injury while walking. Witnesses reported that despite profuse bleeding, he pleaded with bystanders to record a video and make it viral, repeatedly stating, “A woman deceived me.”
Locals informed the police after noticing him lying in a pool of blood. Officers arrived at the scene and immediately rushed him to Howrah District Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have begun an investigation to verify his claims and determine the circumstances leading to the act. His family and close acquaintances are being questioned to gather more details about the possible motive.
Police sources confirmed that Prashanta had been working in a factory in Domjur for several years. Initial inquiries suggest that he was distressed over a personal issue, but no official statement has been released regarding the identity of the woman he mentioned. Law enforcement officials are reviewing the case while urging citizens to report such incidents rather than recording them.
