Man stabs girlfriend to death in broad daylight, jabs himself in Panihati

A horrific public murder shook the busy School Road area of Panihati in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday morning. A man named Subhash Das allegedly stabbed his long-term girlfriend, Geeta Das, to death on a crowded main road right in front of the Rathindra Cinema. Onlookers watched in shock as Subhash pulled out a sharp weapon hidden inside his bag and launched an indiscriminate, fatal attack on the woman amid moving traffic.

Immediately after killing her, Subhash turned the weapon on himself and attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach. Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene as graphic footage of the daylight assault quickly began circulating online. While Geeta succumbed to her severe injuries, Subhash was rescued in a heavily bleeding state and rushed to the Panihati State General Hospital, where he remains under medical care in critical condition.

According to initial reports, both individuals originally belonged to Haroa, though Geeta was currently residing in Mahendra Nagar, Panihati. Local sources revealed that Geeta was legally married but undivorced, and had been in a long-term relationship with Subhash. The two had reportedly been experiencing severe personal rifts and domestic arguments for some time, which locals believe culminated in Wednesday's violent tragedy.
