Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A man has been arrested in Kolkata’s Haltu area under Garfa police station for allegedly forcing his live-in partner to undergo an abortion by giving her an intoxicating substance. The accused has been identified as Pradyumna Das, and police are also investigating claims that he may be a Bangladeshi citizen living in the city using forged documents.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, she and the accused had been in a relationship for a long time and were living together in a live-in arrangement. During this period, she became pregnant. The victim alleged that after learning about the pregnancy, the accused refused to marry her and began putting mental and physical pressure on her to terminate the pregnancy.
The woman claimed that when she refused to abort the child, the accused began distancing himself and attempted to end the relationship. The situation escalated last month when the accused allegedly called her to a friend’s residence in the Haltu area under the pretext of reconciliation.
The victim alleged that she was given a soft drink there that contained a harmful chemical, after which her health deteriorated and attempts were made to forcibly terminate her pregnancy. She also alleged that one of the accused’s friends behaved inappropriately with her during the incident.
The woman later managed to escape and lodged a written complaint at Garfa police station. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused and began verifying his identity and documents. Investigators are also examining his mobile records and searching for possible associates who may have been involved in the incident.
