A 45-year-old mango trader named Manik Sarkar died in a road accident on Friday morning in Malda district’s Gazole area. The incident occurred around 10 AM on National Highway 12 near Alampur, when a dumper truck collided head-on with the toto Sarkar was driving.
He was returning home after selling mangoes in the area. The collision destroyed the toto and fatally injured Sarkar. According to local sources, the dumper truck ran over Sarkar, crushing the lower half of his body. He died on the spot.
Following the incident, Sarkar’s body was taken to the morgue at Gazole State General Hospital. The dumper driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. The accident led to tension in the area. Police are conducting an investigation and efforts are underway to trace the absconding dumper driver. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.
