Mango trader dies after falling from moving train in Nadia

A 37-year-old mango trader, Vrindavan Mandal, died after falling from a moving train near Kalyani Railway Gate No. 42 in Nadia district on Thursday morning. Mandal, a resident of Dengurpara village under Kalyani police station jurisdiction, was returning from Chakdaha to Kalyani with a bag full of mangoes.

The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. when the Krishnanagar local train carrying Mandal was crossing the railway gate. A large bag containing mangoes reportedly slipped and fell onto the railway tracks. While attempting to hold or retrieve the bag, Mandal lost his balance and fell onto the tracks beneath the moving train.

Both of Mandal’s legs were severed due to the impact of the train. Despite the severity of the injuries, he died on the spot. His body remained on the railway track for a significant time until railway officials and police arrived at the scene.

Afterward, Mandal’s body was transported by the Shantipur local train from Kalyani to Ranaghat Railway Hospital for post-mortem examination. Local and railway police have registered the case, and investigations are ongoing.
