Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh face extended judicial custody until January 20 in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case. The court delivered the verdict during a joint appearance of Sisodia and Singh. The case revolves around the controversial Liquor Policy announced by Sisodia on March 22, 2021, implemented on November 17, 2021, and subsequently canceled on July 28, 2022.
The new policy aimed to privatize liquor shops, withdrawing government involvement, and increasing revenue. The ongoing legal proceedings have now led to an extension of judicial custody for the AAP leaders.
During the court hearing, Sanjay Singh requested permission to attend the Rajya Sabha results on January 12. The court granted his request, stating that since only three candidates, including Singh, filed nominations for three Rajya Sabha posts, he would be declared elected on January 12, making his presence necessary.
Singh will be temporarily taken from judicial custody to the Returning Officer's office on January 12 at 3 pm for this purpose. The judicial custody extension comes amid the backdrop of the controversial liquor policy that stirred public and legal scrutiny.
