A group of pilgrims from Bengal returned after attending the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The train carrying the pilgrims arrived around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, with many visibly distressed following the stampede that occurred during the event. While the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is a significant spiritual event, the stampede overshadowed the experience for many devotees.
Many pilgrims from Bengal had traveled long distances, some on foot, to participate in the sacred rituals. However, the stampede, which occurred in the crowded gathering areas, caused panic and led to difficulties for some in navigating the area safely.
On their return journey, pilgrims faced additional challenges. Communication breakdowns, including the failure of mobile networks and internet services, made it difficult for them to contact family members or send live locations. Many also reported insufficient food supply while traveling back. Despite these difficulties, the pilgrims expressed that the spiritual significance of the Kumbh Mela remained meaningful.
