CM Mamata to visit Darjeeling ahead of bypolls, key GTA meeting on cards
In Bhupatinagar, East Midnapore, a married woman was allegedly abducted from her home, raped, and poisoned to death by two neighbors. The woman was kidnapped on Saturday, and after the sexual assault, the attackers reportedly forced poison down her throat to cover up the crime. Villagers soon learned about the incident and rushed the critically injured woman to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries soon after.
The news of her death sparked outrage in the village, leading to a violent retaliation on Sunday morning. A mob of enraged villagers, primarily women, attacked the house of one of the accused. They apprehended the middle-aged man, dragging him through the streets while beating him brutally with bamboo sticks and other weapons. The public outcry escalated quickly, with many demanding swift justice for the victim.
Police were called to the scene to control the situation and have now launched an investigation into the crime. Both accused are under scrutiny, and authorities are working to bring the culprits to justice. This case has drawn parallels to another tragic crime in Jaynagar, South 24 Parganas, where a child was raped and murdered just days earlier. The back-to-back incidents have heightened fears about the safety of women and children in the region and sparked calls for stronger law enforcement and protection.
